Bharat's Achievements

A nation of firsts — reclaiming its rightful place among the world's greatest civilizations

First Civilizational Achievements

Bharat has a long list of world firsts: the first planned urban civilization (Indus Valley, 3000 BCE), the world's first formal grammar (Panini's Ashtadhyayi, 400 BCE), the invention of zero and decimal mathematics, the world's first university (Takshashila, 600 BCE), the first recorded surgery (Sushruta Samhita, 600 BCE), the first comprehensive political treatise (Kautilya's Arthashastra), the first formal system of yoga, and the world's first constitutional republic (Vaishali, 600 BCE) — predating Athens by a century.

Modern Milestones

In independent Bharat, achievements of note include: the world's largest democracy, the world's largest vaccination drive (COVID-19), Chandrayaan-3 landing at the Moon's South Pole (first nation), Mangalyaan reaching Mars on first attempt (only the fourth nation), the world's largest financial inclusion program (Jan Dhan Yojana), building the world's longest sea bridge (Atal Setu), the world's largest solar park (Bhadla Solar Park), and hosting the G20 Presidency in 2023 with a landmark global consensus.

Sports & Athletics

Bharat's sporting achievements are growing. Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win Olympic gold in athletics (javelin throw, Tokyo 2020). The Indian cricket team is one of the most followed sporting sides on Earth, with over 1 billion fans. Bharat has produced world chess champions including Viswanathan Anand (five-time World Champion). Shooting, badminton (P.V. Sindhu — two-time Olympic medalist), wrestling, and boxing have been strong at the Olympics. The Khelo India program is building a new generation of champions.

Cultural & Diplomatic Achievements

Bharat is the world's largest democracy and a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement. It is the birthplace of three G20 Presidencies' unanimous outcomes under the phrase 'One Earth, One Family, One Future (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).' Yoga has been adopted globally and June 21 is recognized as International Day of Yoga by the UN. Bharat is a leading voice for the Global South at international forums and plays a critical role in UN peacekeeping operations.

The Indian Diaspora's Global Contribution

The Indian diaspora of over 32 million people is the world's largest, spread across 190 countries. It includes heads of government (UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar), corporate CEOs (Sundar Pichai of Google, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo, Shantanu Narayen of Adobe), Nobel laureates, astronauts, and leading scientists, artists, and academics who bring the spirit of Bharat to every corner of the world.
