Vision & Significance

Rivers are worshipped as goddesses in Indian culture — Ganga Ma, Yamuna Ma, Saraswati Ma. Yet today, most Indian rivers are severely polluted with sewage, industrial waste, and agricultural runoff. Many are drying up due to excessive groundwater extraction and deforestation.

River Revival Strategy:

• •Pollution Control: Advocating for strict enforcement of industrial discharge norms, sewage treatment mandates, and agricultural runoff management.
• •Floodplain Restoration: Protecting and restoring river floodplains that serve as natural filtration systems, flood buffers, and biodiversity habitats.
• •Afforestation Along Rivers: Planting trees along riverbanks (riparian zones) to prevent erosion, improve water quality, and support aquatic ecosystems.
• •Community Stewardship: Empowering local communities to become guardians of their rivers through education, monitoring, and participatory conservation.

Our Initiatives

Vishwa Guru Bharat leads river restoration efforts through community clean-ups, tree planting, pollution monitoring, and advocacy for stronger environmental regulations.

• •River Clean-up Drives: Organising large-scale volunteer clean-up campaigns along major rivers, removing plastic waste, debris, and ritual waste from waterways.
• •Riverbank Plantation: Planting native trees and grasses along riverbanks to stabilise soil, filter pollutants, and create green corridors for wildlife.
• •Water Quality Monitoring: Installing community water quality testing stations and training local volunteers to monitor and report pollution levels.
• •Sacred River Campaigns: Running awareness campaigns that reconnect citizens with the cultural and spiritual significance of rivers in Indian tradition.
